I try to travel as much as possible year-round. This means over the winter I am often off exploring new islands, mountains, glaciers, beaches, etc. Over the winter I love to mix it up and travel to both tropical and snowy destinations. 

Here, I have created a list of the 10 best destinations to visit this winter!  Let’s get into it!-

The 10 Best Destinations to Visit This Winter

1. Turks and Caicos

A dream destination…Escape the winter temperatures and soak in the sun in the beautiful Turks and Caicos Islands. The winter months in Turks and Caicos’ consist of sunny days usually in the 80s and nights that might get down into the 60s. A great place to get away from the Northern freezing temps. 

Relax on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, go snorkeling, bike around the Island, search for seashells, go parasailing and more! Turks and Caicos has oceans like nowhere else I’ve ever seen…they are unreal. You will not be disappointed in the T&C Islands.

2. St. Croix, USVI

The perfect escape for a tropical jungle/ocean lover! St. Croix has beautiful, mountainous  rolling green hills with the turquoise blue water. So picturesque everywhere you look. The adventurous activities all over the Island are endless. 

Hike to secluded beaches, go on a wild jet ski tour, snorkel, search for beautiful seashells, hangout downtown with the locals, etc.

Be sure to rent a car if you travel here and take some time to explore the entire Island! It is stunning, there’s lots to see.

3. Exumas Islands, Bahamas

If you are looking for a quiet, tropical and peaceful winter getaway look no further…The chain of Exumas Islands in the Bahamas are one of the most relaxing and breathtakingly gorgeous destinations I’ve ever been to. 

Escape reality for a week and book yourself a trip to the Exumas! I highly recommend booking a trip on a catamaran and sailing from Island to Island! Plan your trip with Bahamas Cat Charters, Adam will assure you an amazing vacation on his boat.

Snorkel for sand dollars, paddle board on the calm waters of the Exumas, explore different Islands and maybe even hangout with the pigs on pig island!

4. Colorado

Are you interested in traveling to a snowy destination this winter? Colorado is perfect for you!! Massive mountains, fun ski towns and so much powder. This is the perfect winter getaway for the adventure lover. 

Spend your winter vacation up in the snow covered Colorado Rockies! Ski unreal terrain, explore cool mountain towns and be sure to really bundle up (it gets freezing) while and CO this winter.  Oh and get ready….it’s going to snow a lot!

5. St. Lucia

Located in the West Indies, St. Lucia is an Eastern Caribbean island nation with a pair of well known dramatic mountains that give it a Jurassic Park feel. Picturesque fishing villages and beautiful beaches. A great winter escape, a Caribbean Island that offers both ocean and mountain! 

Due to where St. Lucia is located, temperatures stay warm here all winter long! Check out St. Lucia’s beautiful beaches, sulphur springs, venture over to Pigeon Island and so much more.

6. Maine

Northern Maine specifically! Take a winter vacation up to the Northeast of the United States, another great snowy destination. Maine in the winter is a prime location for outdoor sports, skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling specifically! Temps get cold in the winter so be sure to bring the proper layers. Be careful driving, if you rent a car, rent something that has all-wheel-drive and snow tires if possible. 

Northern Outdoors is a great woodsy, snowmobile resort with food, lodging and rentals all right on site. A place I return year after year.

7. Tulum, Mexico

The boho, yogi, fun destination of Tulum, Mexico. So much culture, history, tacos, beaches and margaritas! Escape to this beautiful Eastern Mexico, trendy tropical vacation this winter. Warm temps are guaranteed!  

Relax on the beach, explore town, or party at a beach club all day and night. The options are endless. 

Tip: This is not a very family friendly destination. It’s mostly adult couples and groups of friends, very little young children.

9. Cozumel, Mexico

Spend your winter vacation on the Island of Cozumel! This island is a great winter vacation destination. Warm, sunny days spent by the ocean. Cozumel is a great place to go if you are interested in diving, it’s a world class destination! 

There are lots of activities to do on the Island – snorkel, explore old ruins, relax on beautiful beaches, rent a car and see the entire Island, hangout in town, and more.

10. New Hampshire

Head up to the Northeast of the United States this winter! Up in NH you will find the beautiful White Mountains and lots of ski resorts. If you are looking for a snowy winter escape New Hampshire is perfect for you.

Stay at the Mount Washington Hotel to get the best NH experience! Be sure to Ski Loon Mountain during your time up there.

Before you leave NH checkout the town of Portsmouth in Southern New Hampshire. A fun, historic, oceanside downtown with lots of cute shops, restaurants and bars to explore.
